Carolina Balcazar

Carolina has been building her path in Canada step by step for the past four years at OpenText, a Canadian technology company. She began as a Financial Project Manager, supporting procurement and finance integrations during mergers and acquisitions. What many do not see is that she applied several times before being accepted. An employee referral finally opened the door, proving that persistence and community both matter.

Last year, she was selected as one of 30 employees worldwide for the company’s first Intrapreneur Leadership Incubator program. At the same time, she transitioned into the Cloud Operations organization, remaining in Finance while moving closer to the technical side of the business. It was her first full immersion in a SaaS environment, shifting from physical inventory to understanding the cloud: how digital services are measured, valued, and managed. It was a new language, a new logic, and a new way of thinking about finance.

This year, she is preparing her next step: returning to a Finance-focused role to support SAP upgrades and propose process improvements through a financial lens. In five years, she plans to be a CPA, FinOps certified, and SAP S/4HANA certified, serving both OpenText and the broader community. Her leaders know this is not a wish, but a plan.

Before immigrating to Canada in 2019, Carolina built her career in Colombia at Bavaria, part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev group, where she became National Financial Accounting Manager. She led the early implementation of IFRS in the country, even before it became mandatory. That experience later led her to consulting and delivering nationwide training in accounting standards and financial management.

When she arrived in Canada, she started again as an Accounting Technician, supporting small and medium sized businesses with system implementations, reconciliations, monthly reporting, and accounts payable. Starting over reinforced her belief that progress is not about titles, but about direction and consistency.

She is currently a CPA candidate and licensed with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario.

Beyond her corporate role, Carolina is the founder of GROW Profit Inc., helping newcomers, students, and small businesses build financial stability in Canada. Since her first month in the country, she has volunteered with the YMCA, later with the KW Multicultural Centre, and has been actively involved with Creekside Church in Waterloo.

For Carolina, goals matter. Clear plans matter. But what truly creates impact is walking alongside others and proving that growth happens one intentional step at a time, especially when you help someone else take theirs.
